Bible Study Material

Studying the Bible is so enjoyable, whether you are studying alone or in a group.  It is also very important to study the Bible and not just read it.  If you’re new to reading the Bible, this may seem a bit daunting, at first, but the more you learn…the more you’ll WANT to learn.  You may even get to a point, like I did, where you just can’t get enough!  When I started studying the Bible, I started really understanding what I was reading.

Honestly, I couldn’t quite understand the Bible when I tried reading “Adult Bibles”, so I went back to my very first “Big Girl” Bible, which my aunt gave me as a young child.  It was a pink Precious Moments Bible, similar to these.  My daughter uses it now, but I read that Bible, along with many other Children’s Bibles together with my children.  I learned so much from the Children’s Bibles, and then after, I think, about five Children’s Bibles later, I was able to understand the “Adult Bibles”.  So if you’re like me, and the Bible seems difficult to understand, try a good Children’s Bible.  If you are the type who loves comics, The Action Bible is right up your alley.  Every page is exactly like an action-packed comic book!  My brother got it for one of my boys because he (my brother) loved comics.

Studying with others is so good since you get to hear how others may interpret passages, or they may catch something you never saw before.  I also enjoy others’ perspectives and comparing them with my own…mostly to see if my thinking is way off, or on par with everyone else.  It is important when or if you choose Bible study material, aided by someone else, not to be misled.  Study material should be straight from the Bible, and not filled with someone else’s opinions.  I highly recommend Dr. David Jeremiah and any material he has to offer. (And not just because he went to Cedarville at the same time my dad went there.)  Dr. David Jeremiah is a brilliant follower of God and studies His word thoroughly.  I have completed some of his Bible study lessons, such as his Heaven series, which I actually did two or three times, with a group, and Angels I also completed in a group, and they were both so interesting and exciting studies.  They were filled with so much information which you can correlate with directly in your Bible.  Everything must be Bible-based or it’s not Bible Study, and it’s not God’s Word.  I’m currently involved with Where Do We Go From Here? by Dr. David Jeremiah, this is to supplement a series I did a few years ago on his Revelation Bible Study Series.

Dr. David Jeremiah has so many great books, studies, and videos to choose from.  Dr. Tony Evans also has wonderful books and studies to follow as well, such as Kingdom Authority, which I did online with my study group during the height of the pandemic when our church was closed.  Another great study I did in a group was Christian It’s Not What You Think, by Andy Stanley, son of the well-known Charles Stanley of In Touch Ministries.  They both come highly recommended by me as well.  Charles and his father have different styles of preaching, however, both of them are faithful stewards, and you can correlate their teachings with the teachings in the Bible.

Precept Upon Precept-started by Kay and Jack Arthur has a Bible Study for every book of the Bible, these studies show you how to pick apart verses and decipher exactly what was intended.  They take into account when the writings all took place, it’s very intensive, and probably for more advanced Bible Study students, but I will not hold you back…I’m just going off my own experiences.  I went through several of the studies and they really opened my eyes to a new way of thinking!  If the study is too intense, try reading their book Sermon on the Mount even if you do the studies, I recommend reading the book as well.

Whatever you choose as a study, even if you don’t choose anything which I have mentioned, make sure it comes directly from the Bible and is not manipulated.
